The fictional story takes place in Pennsylvania, near the Delaware River, during a harsh winter storm. Cherokee, an American Bald Eagle waited patiently for the return of his mate, a female Bald Eagle. Night fell. A ground blizzard, blown by high winds that lifted loose ice-crystal snowflakes high off the ground, swirled around the eagle nest. Whipping winds shook the pine tree and the nest. Moonlight brightened up the whole forest.

Cherokee looked up to the sky and then to the forest all around him. The high winds uprooted and toppled down many trees.

Cherokee waited another day for his mate to return to their nest.  He was getting weak from hunger.  Luckily, he built his nest near a fish hatchery and the nearby Delaware River.  Cherokee abandoned the nest to find food. From then on, Cherokee had to hunt for himself so he could keep his strength to defend his territory.

Find out about Cherokee, his courtship with Mika, and their offspring, Dakota. This story is about a close-knit raptor family and their young starving eaglet.  His parents hunt continuously to feed him.  His antics cause his parents to tilt their heads.

Do they teach him to fly and hunt?  What happens to Dakota when he comes of age?
